The wool is Ghazni wool which is a region in Afghanistan famous for it's wool production. The sheep graze in the rich pastures of the region and the wool develops a high lanolin content which gifts it a beautiful sheen as well as dirt-resistant qualities. The handspun wool yarn is knotted onto an upright roller loom and multiple skilled weavers worh together to create this carpet. Each knot of the pile is tied tightly by hand onto two cotton warp threads which run through the length of the carpet.
