This Afghan carpet would have been made by two weavers working side-by-side. The pile is made by the weaver tying tufts of coloured wool onto two warp strings. Each of these tufts of pile is a knot. The knots are secured in rows from one side of the loom to the other. Wefts are then woven between the warps after the knot row is completed.
