It is powerful in it's geometric monumentality as well as colour. Karapinar means 'Black Spring' and wove magnificent rugs in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries. Carpet weaving and carpet production continued for centuries. It is a wonderful example of a very distinctive style. Examples of this design are known to be woven as far back as the 17th century. It comprises of three interconnecting bold hexagonal medallions with hooked outer decoration.
