What is a Kilim Textile?

Kilims are flatwoven textiles that are handwoven and are created by pure wool yarn woven onto warps. So essentially the pattern is formed by the weft threads rather than knotted to form a pile. Kilims are supple but also strong and sturdy. In traditional nomadic life kilims are used for many domestic purposes from storage bags and tribal trappings as they are not only durable but also lightweight and easy to transport for nomadic life. Large old Turkish vintage kilims are repurposed stylishly to cover furniture and this long bench stool very effectively.
