This Afghan handmade fine Kazak Runner measures 313x82cm. This hallway runner features the perfect blend of colours. It has a neutral, natural greyish main field colour with red main border. It contains numerous other colours too, these include blue, green, orange and apricot.
The design is especially appealing and will add a visual statement to anywhere that it is unrolled. This Afghan hallway runner has a geometric pattern with a nine medallion theme.
Where can I use this Afghan handmade fine Kazak Runner?
The long narrow runner format of this Afghan Kazak runner makes it ideal for use in hallways and corridors. In fact, you can use it anywhere around the home; for instance, in kitchens, galley kitchens, in bedrooms, or along side a staircase. This 3 metre long Afghan runner would not be suitable for use on stairs as it is not long enough. Stair runners require an enormous length, and often an extra narrow width.
Is it hard wearing enough to use in my hallway?
Absolutely! These runner rugs are made to be walked on. Oriental rugs are not delicate. This fine Kazak Runner is ideal for use in hallways and corridors. It is handcrafted with hard wearing natural fibres.
It is made with a 100% wool pile. Wool is incredibly durable and Afghan wool is especially known for its quality and its toughness. Furthermore, the woollen yarn is hand-spun. The advantage of this is that the woollen fibres have an extra tight twist to the yarn which forms a sturdier fibre.
Cotton is the foundation material on this Afghan runner. As a warp thread, cotton is robust and keeps its form well.
How was this fine Kazak Runner made?
This hallway runner rug was handmade. It was made by the technique of hand-knotting. This is an ancient way of rug making, and still is the best.
The weaver ties tufts of woollen yarn onto pairs of warp threads. The warp threads are the long strings of material which are tightly stretched from one beam of the loom to the other. Each tuft is a knot and the knots are tied in rows. In between each row of knots, weft threads are interlaced between the warps and are beaten against the preceding row of knots.
This is a time consuming rug making method, but the quality of the finished article is a testament to the weaver's skill and dedication.
Why do you call this a Kazak?
In the world of Oriental rugs, the rugs are often named after a tribe, place, type of weave or design.
In this case, the term "Kazak" Runner refers to the design. This design is influenced by antique Caucasian rugs. These were especially eye-catching collector rugs which were made with bold angular patterns and bright, cheerful colours and were made in the Caucasus. The Afghan Kazak Rugs and runners take inspiration from the rugs that were made across the Caucasus, modern day Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Sometimes these fine Kazak runners might be known as "Supreme Kazak" or perhaps "Super Kazak".

How long will my runner last?
Hand-knotted Runners and Handwoven Runners are extremely long-lasting items. If properly looked after Oriental Rugs and runners can outlive their owner and maybe even last for generations. In many cases rugs improve with age.
Will the colours of my runner fade?
Handmade Oriental rugs and runners will soften in colour over time. Of course, like any textile, if the runner is used in an area of strong sunlight, such as in a Conservatory for instance, the fading process will be more rapid. During days of strong sunshine, it is good practice to draw the curtains or blinds to keep your Oriental rug looking at its best.
Will the colours transfer onto the flooring underneath?
This is a tricky one to answer! If only we had a crystal ball! There is a risk. Our rugs are all handmade and made with artisan dyes. All of our rugs are thoroughly washed prior to export and any excess dye should come out in the washing process. However, on the odd occasion, the dye can still sometimes transfer. This phenomenon is increased by humidity and temperature, and is regrettably irreversible. If you are concerned about this possibility, perhaps consider using an Underlay to put a barrier between the rug and the flooring/fitted carpet underneath.
How do I care for my Runner
They are easy to care for, but here’s a few helpful pointers to keep your new Afghan rug looking great:
Vacuum
Hoover it regularly – perhaps once a week. This is good practice as tiny dirt particles can cause premature wear. Vacuum it with just the nozzle suction, as rotating brushes can be abrasive. Try to keep the vacuum cleaner away from the fringes as this is probably the weakest point on an Oriental rug; fringes and vacuum cleaners don’t mix!
Rotate
It is a good idea to rotate your Afghan rug on occasion. This will help prevent areas of concentrated wear. Foot shuffling when watching the TV is a prime culprit! Rotating your rug will also help to even-out any incremental changes in colour from exposure to sunlight.
Blot
Any spills should be blotted immediately: blot with kitchen towel or clean un-dyed absorbent cloth; avoid rubbing or scrubbing which can spread the spill or push the spill deeper into the rug.
Use a Rug Underlay
A good rug underlay will keep the rug in place, thereby preventing uneven wear and will help the rug keep from going out of shape.
Professional Cleaning
This is something that is required infrequently, perhaps every 3-5 years depending on use. Please contact us if you would like to have your rug cleaned as we offer a Rug Cleaning Service.
